Entering the Colour World is a series of paintings where the emphasis is made mainly on colour. Most of my works are created with a restrained palette, mostly in a monochrome style, where shades and tones prevail over open colours. In this series, my focus was on a bright, lively palette, with juicy and deep colours. A new style of broad stroke emerged during the work on this series.

Lynn draws inspiration from Canada’s pre-eminent landscape painters; much of her style is derived from artists including Emily Carr and the iconic Group of Seven. Having lived on the West Coast and now residing in Calgary, Lynn’s artwork is increasingly drawn to themes of nature and the wilderness, its constant evolution and the subtle changing of the seasons.

This piece is about the love we have for companion animals. I was quite alone during the first two years of the pandemic, especially in the winter. Aside from the pandemic, I went through some of the worst pain I’ve felt. My cat Sage was there every day, every minute, when I couldn’t sleep at night or when I slept too much. I cradled him in my arms, filling an emotional void the eye couldn’t see. He was my everything and I owed him so much for the unconditional love he gave me. People often make fun of those with deep love for their animals, but I adore all animals that come into my life and am forever grateful for their company. Limited edition print, 25 editions. Jean Grady’s passion for painting began at an early age and was inspired by a blend of workshops and university courses. She began painting with watercolours, but shifted to acrylics for the freedom to create on a larger scale and to work quickly, maintaining a fresh semi-abstract style. Jean enjoys using vivid colours and a broad value range to create feelings of joy and excitement at the beauty of nature. Her paintings are inspired by the landscapes Northern Ontario, where she loves to hike and kayak.

This piece is about the feeling of emptiness. When it feels like something has burrowed right through you and left a gaping hole. We are surrounded by beauty and pure magic. Those little moments when we connect to something greater (like the river rock-like shapes you spot under your feet while walking through the shadows of tree canopies on a summer walk, or that whooshing, comforting sound of geese wings passing-by above) are very special, if we are able to escape the spinning vortex of our daily lives to witness and experience them.

This piece is about a relationship. The kind of relationship that pulls two people in both the same and opposite directions. I have deep ties to rivers. From one continent to another, the people I descended from have always lived by the river. My partner is from people of islands and oceans. This piece is an embodiment of us as our waters. I, a running river, spontaneous, wild, uncontrollable, emotional and free flowing over all lands. My partner the ocean, contained, deep, unpredictable, dangerous, and wild. There is a constant noise in our society which keeps us in a state of discontent and distraction. This piece reflects the division of our attention with the drone of empty claims from advertisements in the background. Height: 14″Width: 17″Depth: 11″

My purpose for this piece was to address myself as a little girl. She was part of an exhibition entitled “Transmissions” where she was surrounded by figurines with exaggerated shadows that represented the playful imagination of a child coupled with an ominous side, their fear of the unknown. This piece is a symbol of the people of Winnipeg and relations to community. The way the people of Winnipeg often leave, but always come back, and always consider it a home. Politics often reveals to me boorish, childish behaviour from societies professing civility. This piece embodies what I think of world leaders as they engage in a struggle for power. Height: 16″Width: 32″Depth: 14″
