Michele Taras prefers to paint with acrylics. She paints directly onto the canvas, and any blending is done there. This piece is a self-portrait. I am shown having crows flying and flowing within my body and emerging through my mouth with tears pouring over my cheeks. I suffer from body dysmorphia, some years much more severe than others. I wage war on my body despite all it has done for me. This piece honours those moments of freedom when BD is not clouding my eyes and I am able to see myself and my body as beautiful and capable. That moment of freedom and sadness from the wounds I have caused my body, when it has done nothing but serve me. C≈ìur de Corbeau means “heart of the crow”, an intelligent bird that is family oriented and can be very noise and abrasive. Lynn draws inspiration from Canada’s pre-eminent landscape painters; much of her style is derived from artists including Emily Carr and the iconic Group of Seven. Entering the Colour World is a series of paintings where the emphasis is made mainly on colour. Most of my works are created with a restrained palette, mostly in a monochrome style, where shades and tones prevail over open colours. In this series, my focus was on a bright, lively palette, with juicy and deep colours. A new style of broad stroke emerged during the work on this series.
